The Hy.REC® utilizes a self-cleaning heat exchanger, along with separation and purification technologies to recover, reuse and purify the gas flow.

Gas recovery & purification

The Hy.REC® system was developed for the flat glass industry where hydrogen and nitrogen create a protective atmosphere over molten tin baths. Our system extracts this gas mixture, cleans it, and returns it to the process. The Hy.REC® removes impurities including dust particles, oxygen, sulfur, and water. Unlike water scrubber systems that create water-saturated gas requiring energy-intensive drying, our process uses an in-house developed self-cleaning heat exchanger followed by a dust filtration step to begin the purification process. Resulting in a high-purity gas stream which can be fed back to the tin baths.

Gas recycling technology

The Hy.REC® purification process works through multiple stages. After dust filtration, the gas flows through two vessels containing activated carbon to remove sulfur. Next, oxygen (O₂) is removed in a reactor vessel where it combines with a small amount of hydrogen. The final step uses Temperature Swing Adsorption (TSA) with two parallel vessels containing siliporite adsorbent material. While one vessel processes gas, the other regenerates using a hydrogen-nitrogen mixture. This system handles gas flows of 300-700 Nm³/hr at temperatures up to 450°C and delivers output pressure of 0.1-0.4 bar(g).
